A lot of people seem to be very impressed by Robert G Picard’s piece on why journalists deserve low pay. His perspective of economic history is impeccable. But let me just add one thing, mr professor Picard, that I think you forgot:
Bad journalists deserve low pay. Good journalists deserve a pay check of epic proportions.
Come to think of it, it’s the exact same for professors. And by defining journalism like Robert G Picard does (”Consequently, the primary economic value of journalism derives not from its own knowledge, but in distributing the knowledge of others”), he proves a knowledge of what high quality newsroom work is all about that just doesn’t suffice.
